Delaine Nelson, owner of Neon Cactus Wines, the first and still the best wine store in Cochrane, Alberta, started the business as a full-scale liquor store in 1998. (Check out these pictures of the original store under construction.) In the spring of 2002, she decided to downsize the store and create a specialty wine boutique catering to a larger town with an increasingly varied population.
Neon Cactus Wines has a lot of happy customers in Cochrane. They come in to taste and to browse. 
Regular customers count on the fine products and superior service offered at the store. They expect to find new wine treasures weekly and newcomers are usually surprised and delighted by the selection. Some customers order by the case to take advantage of a particular vintage while it is available, or just to enjoy the discount. They also like having their Frequent Purchase Card stamped and redeeming it for a free bottle of wine when it’s full. Neon Cactus Wines provides ample quantities of high-quality products for all kinds of special events in Cochrane. The guidance and advice provided by Delaine and her staff are valuable services that Cochrane residents rely on.
On the evening of November 3, 2011, Neon Cactus Wine successfully presented the fourth annual Cochrane Winefest, held at AC’s restauant at the Cochrane Golf Club. Attendees received a complimentary wine goblet and had the opportunity to taste more than 80 different wines, and also scotch. There were hot and cold hors d’oeuvres on offer. Feedback about the event from those who attended was unanimously positive. Neon Cactus Wines has made this an annual event, eagerly anticipated by wine lovers. Have a look at pictures of the event.
On January 28, 2012, Neon Cactus Wines held a scotch tasting at the Cochrane Men of Vision Pipes and Drums Robbie Burns Night for the twelfth consecutive year. For a minimal charge to support the Band, attendees could try a wee dram of a wonderful variety of scotches. Have a look at some pictures of the event!
We have an array of scotches available at Neon Cactus Wines ~ and the selection is continuously changing. There is even a single malt from India and one from Japan! (Click on Scotch in the list at the right to read about some of the scotches in stock.)
On July 16, 2011, Neon Cactus Wine hosted a Stampede Lunch and Wine Tasting to show appreciation to our many loyal customers. For a $2 donation to the Cochrane Activettes, attendees enjoyed a full and delicious lunch along with samples of the wonderful Farmer’s Table wines.
Wine is an important part of a good dinner and an enjoyable sipping beverage anytime. Neon Cactus Wine is proud to cater to the desires of its Cochrane customers to be informed about, and to enjoy, this aesthetic and gastronomic pleasure.
