In 1915, an oak cask containing a blend of the finest tawnies the company possessed was set aside for the exclusive use of the Penfold family. This became known as “the Grandfather” due to the great age of the oldest tawnies in the blend.

To honour this great tradition, Penfolds Grandfather Tawny Port, first released in 1960, is a blend of the finest and oldest tawnies laid down for extended maturation in the Penfolds tawny cellar.

Here is a beautiful, pale golden Champagne with very fine yet lively bubbles. On the nose, the first impression is of a pastry shop. Then come the floral notes: lime-tree in full bloom, violets, lilac, all of which seem to resonate with the blueberry notes and those, even more concentrated, of soft dried apricots. The mouthfeel is silky smooth. Then it starts to melt like ripe, fleshy apricots, gorgeous melon and enticing rum pastries with the slightly spicy notes of Muscat grapes. On the whole, a perfect sense of balance, halfway between freshness and full bloom. An excellent aperitif and also a perfect accompaniment to simple savoury food. $59.95*

Lammershoek Roulette
Full-bodied with deep ruby colour, this wine displays tobacco, spice and fruit on the nose and soft integrated oak tones on the palate. It has the superb volume and structure of Syrah, the acidity typical of Carignan, and Grenache adds the fine delicate tannins. Mourvedre provides black berry fruit and Viognier the perfumed aromas. Serve with meat, poultry and pasta dishes. Decanting is recommended. Good ageing potential. $24.95*

Unchilfiltered Té Bheag, pronounced “chey vek,” means “the little lady” or “a wee dram” in colloquial Gaelic.
